Student Vote at HPS
For the first time, students at Harmony from grades 4-8 will have the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice in the riding of Prince Edward-Hastings through the Student Vote program. “2,750 schools, more than half of ALL schools in Ontario, have registered to participate in Student Vote. This is by far the greatest number of schools to participate in Ontario since the trial program in 2003.” The election at Harmony will take place on October 4th, 2011. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Treating others with respect has been a discussion in our classroom to create a a positive and cooperative learning environment.
Learning Goal: we will write a paragraph about character and communicate our point of view
Success Criteria:
- Write a paragraph that is 6-8 sentence.
- All sentences should be complete and well developed.
- Paragraph should not have any punctuation errors.
- All sentences beginning with a capital.
- Submit work into the hand in folder
Does Everyone Deserve Respect?
In class, students have been discussing the character attribute of respect. Students were challenged and asked, does every person deserve some kind of respect? Please read their comments.
Answering Questions
In class, we read Survival in the City. We made predictions, discussed features in the text and modelled how to answer a question.
Learning Goal: we will read non-fictin text and answer questions with details and meaningful connections
Success Criteria:
- Question: Restate the question and use it in my answer
- Example – Give and example to support my answer
- Example – Give another example to improve my answer
- Connection – Make connections that are meaningful ( Text to World, Text to Text or Text to Self)

Welcome Back!
Well, the day has finally come. I am sure that all of you are extremely excited to return to school and begin the new year. The year will be filled with lots of exciting new adventures in and out of the classroom. Our class blog will be a great way to keep up to date with your daily work and see some of the great things your classmates are doing throughout the year.
