Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

In class, we have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roland Dahl. This novel is a wonderful story about a poor boy who wins a golden ticket to attend a tour of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory.

Question: We have been discussing how Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a book about character. How is Charlie and Grandpa Joe different from all the other children and parents? Why is Charlie caring, honest, and respectful towards everyone? Use your own ideas and examples from the text to explain your thinking. (12-15 sentences)


Were the actions taken by fans in Vancouver appropriate?

After the loss in the Stanley Cup final, Vancouver fans took to the streets and began rioting. Clearly, from the images that you see, that matters were taken to far. On May 26, 2011, students in 4/5 V created castles and Greek temples and hosted an exhibit to primary classes in our school. The structures were incredible. Well done everyone!

After hosting an exhibit with castles and Greek temples students had an opportunity to reflect on the experience.

Our views on smoking

In health class, we have been discussing the dangers about smoking and how it can harm the human body.
Learning Goal: communicate our thoughts and feelings about substance abuse and it affects on the human body.
Success Criteria:

  • Write a clear response about the question and stay on topic
  • Clearly identify your thoughts and feelings with support
  • No errors in grammar and punctuation
  • Written in complete sentence

Question: Governments and health organizations all around the world  have tried to discourage people from starting to smoke and encourage people to quit. Clearly, smoking is not healthy and has long term affects on the human body such as respiratory and circulatory illnesses. Why should Canadians never start smoking and quit? Explain your thinking.
